What is WebP?

The oldest and most universally supported photo format. Lossy, no transparency, and it degrades a little every time it is re-saved.
What changes in this conversion
WebP can store transparency and JPG cannot, so any transparent areas are filled with white before encoding. Without that step they would come out black.
