Converting AVI to GIF

This page is the AVI to GIF setting of our converter, with GIF already chosen. Drop a AVI file in and the result comes back as GIF — no account, no queue, and no watermark on the output.

The conversion runs entirely inside your browser tab. Your file is read into memory on your own machine, converted there, and handed straight back. Nothing is uploaded, which means there is no size limit imposed by someone else's bandwidth and no copy of your file sitting on a server after you close the tab.

What is AVI?

A container from the 1990s. Still produced by some cameras and screen recorders, and poorly supported on the modern web.

What is GIF?

Limited to a 256-colour palette. Suited to flat graphics, logos and simple animation rather than photographs.

What changes in this conversion

GIF holds 256 colours and no audio, and stores every frame in full rather than the difference between frames. A few seconds is fine; a whole clip would run to hundreds of megabytes, which is why the tool asks for a range and caps it.

Is it really free?

Yes, and there is no catch to explain. Because the work happens on your device rather than on a server, running this costs us nothing per conversion — so there is no bill to recover and nothing to gate behind a sign-up, a daily quota or a watermark.
